Event 32 – $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (Six Handed)

Day 2 of event 32 saw the paid places reached, and for much of the day it looked as though TJ Cloutier would be one of the 54 who would get paid. On the verge of his third cash of the series, Cloutier got involved in a blind on blind clash with Mike Sowers that ended his day though. A raise to 4,200 from the small blind by Cloutier was met by a 3 bet to 12,000 by Sowers, prompting Cloutier to quickly jam it all in for around 150,000. Sowers called with and Cloutier had to reveal just for a move that left him exiting the tournament just shy of the money.

Having both made the money, start of day chip leaders Jonathan Little and Daniel Negreanu had contrasting fortunes thereafter – Negreanu busting for a min cash, whilst Little went on to finish the day as chip leader once again. With 14 players remaining Little’s stack of 1,290,000 (161 BBs) leads the way from Allen Bari (1,191,000) who is in second. Jonathan Aguiar (455,000), Erick Lindgren (525,000), Andrew Robl (554,000) and Dan Smith (719,000) are all still going strong as well, making for a tough final day in this tournament on Thursday.

Event 34 - $1,000 Turbo No-Limit Hold'em

Taking its lead from the popularity of the turbo events which have featured at EPT festivals in recent times, the WSOP has followed suit now and has introduced its first ever turbo bracelet event. With levels starting at 30 minutes long then extending to 40 minutes at level 5, it was always going to be a hectic day with lots of action. Sure enough, just 35 players remained at the end of day 1 from an original field of 1629, meaning that a record 98% of the field were eliminated on the first day.

Chip leader on 354,000 (88 BBs) was Victor Figueroa, and of the other 34 who will be returning along with him we have WSOP, EPT and WPT winner Jake Cody (190,000) and winner of event 28 at this WSOP Jason Duval.

Play is only scheduled for two days in total, although when day 2 starts levels will be extended to one hour each so things will not be quite so frantic on Thursday.

Event 35 - $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha

Along with the turbo event the other new tournament to start up on Wednesday was the $3,000 pot limit Omaha event. Eight levels of play saw 137 left in it, but as there were only 640 to start with about another third of that remaining number need to bust before anyone gets paid.

With just one cash apiece so far this WSOP, Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth are both on course to add to that having made it through to day 2 along with a few names from the biggest online PLO games such as Jared “Harrington25” Bleznick and Ashton “Ashman103” Griffin.

They will all be chasing South African Jarred Solomon who already has four cashes to his name this series. Solomon’s 159,100 stack was worth 265 big blinds at the end of play and he will be in a great position to add a fifth cash to his record when play resumes on Thursday.
