PokerStars Might Block All Australian Players Soon

Australian online poker players received some bad news on Thursday after it came to light, that Amaya could be soon blocking all players from Australia.

Amaya Inc., which currently owns and operates the world's biggest online poker site PokerStars, said that if current proposed amendments to the online gambling law are passed in Australia, blocking Australian online poker players from their service is "likely".

The news of the possible poker's Black Friday in Australia would not come as a massive surprise, however, as it has been rumored to happen for a while now. According to PokerNews, Amaya already took the first steps to exit the Australian market earlier this year, after PokerStars announced it would no longer be sponsoring the popular Aussie Millions tournament series.

“In Australia, we currently offer poker and are reviewing the applicability of proposed legislation to player-vs-player games of skill. At this time, it would appear likely that if the legislation passes, we would block players from Australia.”, Amaya CFO Daniel Sebag said.

According to Poker Industry Pro, the Australian market currently contributes 2.5% to Amaya’s revenue.
